FPV drone tour through Billy's Furniture showroom in Jacksonville, IL (free giveaway winner)

We Gave Away a Free FPV Drone Tour, and Billy’s Furniture in Jacksonville, IL Won

Serving this area? Explore our digital marketing in Jacksonville IL.

Most of the advice we give business owners boils down to one line: let people experience your business before they ever set foot in it. This year we decided to put our own money behind that advice. We announced a giveaway (one free FPV drone tour, planned, flown and edited by our team at no cost to the winner) and let local businesses throw their names in the hat. The winner: Billy’s Furniture in Jacksonville, Illinois. The video above is the prize being delivered. Below is the story of the giveaway, the earlier FPV promo we’d already shot at the same store, and a candid look at why a giveaway might be the smartest furniture store marketing play that almost nobody in retail is running.

The Giveaway: One Free FPV Store Tour

The premise was deliberately simple. An FPV drone tour, a first-person-view drone flown by hand through a business, doorways and all, is one of the highest-impact pieces of content a retail store can own. It’s also the kind of service plenty of owners are curious about but hesitant to book sight unseen. A giveaway erases that hesitation. We put the prize up on our social channels, invited area businesses to enter, and committed to treating the winner exactly like a paying client: same route planning, same practice passes, same edit and delivery.

For a look at what the finished product is like inside a larger building, see our one-take flight through the 1870 Gillham House for Jacksonville Transfer Company, the antique mall and custom furniture shop on West State Street.

The playbook, if you want to steal it for your own business:

  • Make the prize the product. Give away the exact thing you sell, produced at full quality. The winner’s result becomes a public demo for everyone who didn’t win.
  • Keep entry friction near zero. A comment, a share, a tag: that’s enough. Every single entry pushes the promotion in front of a fresh local audience.
  • Announce the winner where people entered. The reveal is its own piece of content, and it rewards the audience that played along.
  • Publish the finished work. The delivered video is the payoff post: proof for the winner, portfolio for you, and a reason for the next business to raise its hand.

The Winning Flight Through Billy’s Furniture

Here’s the thing about a furniture showroom: it may be the single best-suited retail space in existence for FPV flying. Wide aisles. Staged room displays that read like little film sets. Soft textures and warm lighting everywhere the camera looks. The drone glides in and threads through living room arrangements, past dining sets and down the mattress rows, and the viewer gets what no photo carousel can deliver: a genuine sense of how much is actually in the building and what it feels like to browse it.

That matters more in furniture than in almost any other retail category, because furniture is a wander-first purchase. Nobody buys a sectional from a thumbnail. They want to walk the floor, compare, sit, second-guess and circle back. A retail store video shot this way lets a shopper do the first lap from their phone, and the store that gives them that lap is the store they drive to.

Furniture is a wander-first purchase. An FPV tour lets customers wander the showroom from the couch they’re about to replace.

The Store We’d Already Flown Before

There’s a fun wrinkle in this story: this wasn’t our first flight through Billy’s. An earlier FPV promo (the second video above, shot on a compact cinewhoop-style rig built for tight indoor spaces) had already taken a spin through the showroom. So when their name came out of the hat, we weren’t starting from scratch; we were coming back to a space we knew, with a chance to fly it better.

And honestly, that repeat appearance is the most telling part of the whole promotion. A business that has seen what drone videography does for its social reach doesn’t shrug at a second video. It jumps at one. Fresh footage means fresh posts, updated displays on camera, and another wave of local attention. Video content isn’t a one-and-done purchase any more than a newspaper ad was; the businesses that win with it treat it like a habit.

Why a Giveaway Beats Buying Clicks

Here’s the cold math that makes this a marketing story and not just a feel-good one: paid clicks in the furniture world are brutally expensive. Retail furniture keywords routinely run double-digit costs per click, and that is per click, not per customer. Against that backdrop, a well-run giveaway is a bargain audience-builder.

  • Reach that compounds. Every entry, share and tag is organic distribution to a local, relevant audience: the exact people a furniture store wants and the exact people we want to reach too.
  • Social proof on tap. “We won a free drone tour” is a story the winner tells for you, and it lands with far more credibility than any ad copy.
  • A content flywheel. One giveaway generates an announcement post, entry engagement, a winner reveal, the finished video and a recap article (the one you’re reading right now). Five assets, one idea.
  • Goodwill you can’t purchase. Giving something real to a local business reads completely differently than an ad, because it is completely different.

What a Retail Store Video Does After the Confetti

The giveaway ends; the asset keeps working. A finished FPV tour slots into just about every channel a furniture store markets on:

  • Website: a tour on the homepage answers “is it worth the trip?” in the first ten seconds.
  • Social: the full flight plays on YouTube and Facebook, while short cuts become Reels and Shorts that consistently out-travel static photos.
  • Google Business Profile: video on a listing helps a store stand out in the local results where furniture shoppers actually search.
  • Ads & promos: when a store does spend on ads, motion-first creative earns cheaper clicks than a stock photo ever will, and seasonal sales get an instant visual anchor.

It’s the same logic behind the one-take FPV tour we flew through a golf car dealership in Taylorville: when the size and feel of the showroom is the sales pitch, put the camera inside it. And for stores in our own backyard, it pairs naturally with the rest of what we do for businesses in Jacksonville, from web design to drone video services built around how the footage will actually be used.

Giveaway & FPV Store Tour FAQs

How did the free FPV tour giveaway work?

We announced the giveaway on our social channels and invited local businesses to enter with a simple comment, share or tag. After the entry window closed we drew a winner, Billy’s Furniture in Jacksonville, and produced their FPV store tour exactly as we would for a paying client, from route planning through final edit, at no cost to them.

What makes an FPV tour different from regular drone footage?

Standard drone video is shot from above and outside. An FPV tour is flown by hand through the business itself (in the front door, down the aisles, around the displays) so the viewer experiences the store the way a shopper does. For retail spaces like furniture showrooms, that inside-the-store perspective is the whole point.

Why run a giveaway instead of just buying ads?

Furniture-related ad clicks are among the most expensive in local retail, often costing double digits per click. A giveaway builds local reach through shares and tags, creates multiple pieces of content from a single idea, and produces social proof that ads cannot buy. It complements paid advertising rather than replacing it, and often feeds it better creative.

What should a furniture store do with a video like this?

Put the full tour on the website homepage and YouTube, cut short vertical clips for Reels and Shorts, add video to the store’s Google Business Profile, and reuse footage in seasonal sale promotions and ads. One shoot typically supplies months of content across every channel the store markets on.

Will Elevated Ideas run another giveaway?

Quite possibly. The best way to catch the next one is to follow our social channels. But businesses don’t need to wait on luck: we quote FPV tours and drone video projects per project, with the price agreed before we ever take off. Reach out with your location and goals and we’ll map it out.
