The Close

Four Weekends, Then The First Of Every Month

Four weekends gets the path sealed. Ten minutes on the first of every month keeps it sealed.

The order we would do it in with nothing but a phone, a laptop and four Saturdays.

Four weekends.

Each weekend has a minimum. Hit the minimum and the weekend counts. If it takes you two weekends to do one, that is fine too. A weekend that takes a month is still a lot faster than a fix that never happens.

1Found.

Chapters 4 and 5. The minimum: your Google Business Profile is claimed, verified and in your hands, with the right category, your real hours, current photos and an answer on every review. Then search your trade and your town in a private window, and once in an AI assistant, and write down what each one gets wrong about you.

2Trusted.

Chapters 6 and 7. The minimum: you have your direct review link, you picked one of the two ways to ask and added it to the end of every job, and you read your own website’s first screen on a phone as a stranger and fixed anything that is dated or that you cannot prove.

3Contacted and Answered.

Chapters 8, 9 and 10. This is the big one, so give it the most room. The minimum: your phone number is a link that dials with one tap, your form asks the two or three questions that let you quote, and a test inquiry you sent yourself, with a made-up name and a phone you have never used, reached a human and got a reply. If you only finish one weekend in this whole plan, make it this one.

4Count and Own.

Chapters 11 and 14. The minimum: your lead log is running, you compared last month’s reported conversions to the inquiries and jobs you actually got, and you know whose name is on your domain, your hosting, your Google accounts and your ad accounts, with auto-renew on and the codes coming to your phone.

Notice what is not on the list. Ads, which is Chapter 12, and content, which is Chapter 13. They are good chapters and they come later for a reason. Both of them pour more people into the top of the path. Until the path holds water, more people just means more people leaking out the bottom. Seal the path, count the right thing, then turn on the hose.

Put the four Saturdays on your calendar tonight, before you close the book. A weekend with a name on it gets done. A weekend called "sometime" belongs to whoever calls first.

The first of every month.

Four weekends gets the path sealed. It does not keep it sealed. Ten minutes on the first of every month does.

  1. Run the 9 PM Test again. Same phone, private window, same six steps. Search, find yourself, open the listing, tap through, try to reach you, wait. Compare it to last month’s scorecard.
  2. Read the lead log. How many inquiries, where they came from by your own count, and what each one became. If the dashboard, the log and the booked work disagree, that is the thing to look into this month.
  3. Check the ownership list. Any renewal coming due, any login that changed hands, any new person with access who should not still have it.

And when something does leak, fix it in the same order as the first time. The first-repair rule: restore blocked contact first, then improve clarity, then expand reach. A phone number that does not dial outranks a slow page. A slow page outranks a new ad. When you are tired and three things are broken at once, that rule tells you which one to touch.

Checklist, Chapter 15

The monthly check

Saves on this device as you go. Nothing is sent to us.

Clear everything?

Want company along the way?

One weekend at a time, by email: the steps and the worksheets for that weekend, four emails over four weeks. Add your mobile number and the same four arrive by text too. Free, optional, and the only place on this site that asks how to reach you.

Four emails, one a week, then nothing more unless you ask. Unsubscribe in one tap at the bottom of any of them. If you add your mobile, the same four come by text from Elevated Ideas; message and data rates may apply, reply STOP to opt out.

One more question.

Ryan, can't I just do the 9 PM Test once and be done?

You can do it once and fix a lot. I would rather you did that than nothing.

But the test is a snapshot, and your business keeps moving after the photo is taken. In the businesses we see, what turns up on a second look usually is not something the owner did wrong. It is something that changed while nobody was watching: a setting, a renewal, a new employee with the password. Ten minutes a month is how you find those changes while they are still small.

Four Saturdays, then ten minutes a month.

The free online presence report is the one thing in the book we ask you to let us run: the outside view of your listing, your details, your reviews, your speed and the map.
